Songwriter/producer Derek Miller and vocalist Alexis Krauss comprise Sleigh Bells, an experimental pop duo that began earning its first fans after a breakout performance at the 2009 CMJ Festival. The musicians formed the group in New York, where Miller (a Florida native and onetime member of hardcore act Poison the Well) had relocated in the hopes of starting a new project....
Coming out of the effervescent early-'90s Los Angeles rave scene, the Movement were a trio formed by producers Richard "Humpty" Vission and AJ Mora, and rapper/producer/dancer DJ Hazze. Producer and record industry figure Walter "Kandor" Khan signed the group to his Sunshine label in 1992; the trio hitting paydirt right off the bat, as their debut single, the anthemic "Jump!," became a dancefloor smash that same year and even managed something of a pop crossover, thanks in no small part to its (still to this day) adoption as a sports anthem....
Combining equal parts of deep funk, high-energy punk, and frantic ska, the Los Angeles-based Fishbone was one of the most distinctive and eclectic alternative rock bands of the late '80s. With their hyperactive, self-conscious diversity, goofy sense of humor, and sharp social commentary, the group gained a sizable cult following during the late '80s, yet they were never able to earn a mainstream audience....
Illustrating the perfect underground success story (and a testament to the new music model), Slightly Stoopid, and their label Stoopid Records, has become a case study in how to ‘make it' without the aid of radio or MTV circa the early 21 st century....

"The Meanest Of Times" contains all the best elements of the DKM sound: a complex distillation of classic punk rock, Celtic folk and American rock'n'roll, this album puts the band's diversity, intensity and sincerity on full display....
The Gaslight Anthem rose out of the fertile punk scene of New Brunswick, NJ, flaunting a unique style that melded the influence of Bruce Springsteen, Wilson Pickett, and various Motown groups with the rough, emotional grit of Hot Water Music and Jawbreaker....
Tegan and Sara's 13-year career has seen them build an avid global following of fans and fellow musicians alike. A former member of punk rock band Million Dead, Frank Turner turned his attention to folkier, acoustic "musics" after the demise of the aforementioned hardcore outfit. Born in Bahrain in 1981, Turner was educated at Eton College in England....
Hailing from Manchester, U.K., the 1975 managed to combine the dark and youthful themes of sex, love, and fear with ethereal alt-rock music. The four-piece met at school in 2002, although lead singer and guitarist Matt Healy was born in London and drummer George Daniel was born across the North Sea in Brussels....
